Remembering Ledo's and Jerry's before they were chains.

Went into a Ledo's and memories of standing in line, in the snow, with other college students just to get in flooded into my head.
I don't think the pizza's were less greasy, but for some reason we just had to go.
Same with Jerry's when it was one shop in Wheaton. The "Secret Sauce" was different before it became a chain or my taste has changed. The old man once yelled at us to get out because we were done eating and he had customers waiting. Red's Hobby Shop was in Wheaton too, before the Metro and all.
There are others I remember like the Big Boys at New Hampshire and the Beltway and Stained Glass Pub.
And what was the drive in at four Corners? Was it a Big Boys also?

When we moved from PG to HoCo in 1984 we ate at the Ledo's in Fulton. It was the worst pizza we ever attempted to eat. The peperoni was the shape of a small bowl harboring loads of grease. I hope it has improved since then.

I really miss that sauce! Wheaton, not so much.

Man, that's the bitch about getting old. Good memories improve with age, while bad memories tend to fade, (making the good ones seem even better) and we cherry-pick from among them.

It was terrifying to find the Adelphi original Ledo's had closed.

I can report that the College Park branch of the firm still makes them like they used to.

I remember you could ask for a sack of ends and then we'd munch on them on the drive home
(they cut the ends off the rolls and tossed them into a bag a little stale sometimes but free)
And Jerry had bunions something awful had those weird orthopedic shoes with holes cut out of the uppers. Odd but that and him yelling were the things I remember the most about the place ....well and the roast beef subs with Jerry's special sauce

I like Ledo's, they are just expensive and they dont deliver. I really wish they delivered to our house, but there isnt one close enough that would deliver anyways.

The funny thing is the original Wheaton Jerry's is now a Ledo's... Still like both. Prefer Ledo's Pizza, and Jerry's Subs. Just have to go to either Aspen Hill or 16th Street to get that. However if I'm in Aspen Hill, I'll happily hit the new Roy Rogers there. --JB
