Once the first shot is fired, I think asshattery'll be the order of the day. However, 'til that happens, I think current events're more akin to the mid-late 1913/early 1914 march up to war rather than the beginning of its end in 1917. All that's needed is a single spark (shot).

We've already had a wave cycle of events, maybe working toward a crescendo. Occupy, Baltimore, Ferguson, BLM, War on Cops, > ... .

Good question. I think it actually shined a light on them and brought a lot of the socialist movement out in the open. Rather than disinfecting the problem, I think it's actually making them bolder.
My best hope for a peaceful resolution is that there are lots of undercover infiltrators in those groups who are compiling evidence for massive arrests and prosecutions of the subversives.
I know it's April Fools Day, but damn... I can hope, can't I?
