    Try the Walther PPQ. good gun and the ergo's look like they were built for small hands.

    Also many hammer guns if you cock it first, the slide is much easier. Also technique, push-pull (I'm sure this has been mentioned, I didn't read thread).

    If it's a pure home defense (HD) gun, get a 'full sized' pistol with light/laser, optic, maybe even threaded barrel and suppressor - really trick it out. The gun will have less recoil and inspire you/wife to shoot it more and confidence in your abilities and the awesomeness of the gun itself.

    You forgot to mention she should be an extreme expert adding this hammer cocking bit in her shooting rituals if the gun will be used for self defense.
