    This year I bought my first pair of good breathable waders. I’ve always heard don’t wear jeans (harsh on the seams) and cotton is not very good once you start to get cold under these waders. What do you guys wear, I have UA cold gear leggings but I’m curious what else to lawyer them with and what others use.

    When it's cool I wear merino thermals. If it's cold I throw a pair of fleece wader pants over the merino.

    I usually wear the waders straight from home, so it's USMC surplus heavyweight polypropylene leggings over some old full length spandex-type bike leggings (no zippers). I find that an insulating layer is needed to keep the waders away from my skin to prevent heat loss. The bike leggings alone would work in the air or on shore, but the water is a heat sink. The combo transports sweat away from me to keep me feeling warmer. Part of the dress strategy is in case I fall in (it will happen sooner than later ).Cotton = your life will suck.

    Back when I was an instructor at Indian Head, the Navy UDT guys would wear pantyhose under their wet suits in cold weather to give them a layer of warmth and make the suits easier to get on and off. Seemed to really work although it never occurred to me to tell a future seal team member that he looked good in pantyhose..
