Dude, that rifle is sexy. I'm typically a guy who likes bluing and wood, but when it comes to something like this, that's functional beauty right there!

Thanks, its actually techniques used by USMC Scout Snipers, one of my coworkers used to build the M40A5s for the Corps, and that is the type of paint job they'd send it out ot the fleet with. the leaves I knew about but my favorite part is that mesh looking pattern, all that is, is a 4in x 6in strip of mesh laundry bag and use that as a stencil.. it's freaking awesome lol

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of paint did you use?

I LOVE this thread. One of the things that I loved about living in SW Nebraska when I was growing up was functional, precision rifle marksmanship. I enjoyed the exactness of punching holes in a paper target and getting small groups, but one day I'd like to put together a really sweet varminting bolt rifle and hit a prairie dog town again.

That's some fun shooting, and it really tests your ability to estimate distance and wind, and knowing how to hold in order to make the shots. (Never doped the scopes - we just had fine crosshairs, and we'd adjust our point of aim based on the variables.)

cuttyfunk- you will find that when you have doc Ed set up a rifle the load tuning will be easy. His most recent work for me was installation of my Krieger #17 bbl in my .308 match rifle. I shot a new personal best .30 cal group with it (.277" five rounds, prone from bipod with rear bag). I've shot tighter with varmint cal rifles but that shaved a tenth off my best .30 cal group. His work is impeccable and a great guy to boot.

Move over RPR, make room for the Howa HCR.

Had my eye on the Ruger Precision Rifle since it was released but was never able to snatch one up. Either I couldn't find one reasonably priced when I wanted it or didn't have the funds when one finally did pop up. Their loss and my gain. Hadn't even heard of the Howa HCR until only a couple months ago and immediately appreciated its aesthetics. There are some very positive reviews online so I won't bother with specifics. Just about have the rifle dialed in just where i want it. On top is a Vortex Viper HST 6-24 and holding it up is a Harris 6-9 S-series bipod.

I've had it out to the range a few times now and my groups using Hornady 140g ELD Match ammo have hovered around 0.7" at 100 yards. Almost inevitably with two rounds touching and a third (or fourth) opening the group up. One issue I'm having is my rear bag. I can tell I'm having to muscle the bag to maintain proper elevation. This problem is compounded by the fact that the surface of the bench and the bag are relatively slippery and the bag can shift easily. Did shoot a good group today with the Hornady ammo of .60" but also shot these two outstanding groups shown in the picture above. The left group being .283" and the right .419. The red dot measures .625 in case you're curious. Both groups were shot with Winchester 140g Match ammo. The rifle is zeroed for the Hornady ammo, hence the slightly off center groups. Only bought a single box of the Winchester so it remains to be seen if the rifle likes this particular ammo or whether to planets were just aligned. Either way, thoroughly enjoying the rifle and looking forward to stretching it out soon.

I don't know if you'd consider this a precision Bolt Action Rifle, but I guess I can probably hit the side of a barn from a mile away.

Im sure but how does your shoulder feel after unloading a few mags?

No more than a 12 gauge shotgun. It's really more of a push than a quick smack to the shoulder.

I've only fired 5 shots, but it's not bad at all.
