Keep coming to this thread and leaving it. So hard to find something suitable to write that comes close to honoring the bravery and sacrifice of those who gave their fullest measure to protect the rest of us. They are our best. So tragic. Rest in peace.

Thought I would post an update. Along with the two Wilmington FF's that perished, two others were injured and are at the Crozer-Chester Burn Center in Pa. One is still critical but the other seems to be progressing well. This was posted on FB so I'm sure it's OK to post here as well.

"Great news coming from the family of FF Brad Speakman. Please continue to keep the WFD, IAFF Local 1590, and their families in your thoughts. From his wife Lauren-- We have kept updates on Brad to a minimum to protect his privacy. We have received so much love and support and realize people could benefit from his progress! This morning he asked me to share his update.

Brad continues to improve every day. He is more alert and his spirits seem a little better each day. He gets dressing changes with wound debridements each morning to assess the wounds. The wounds are changing every day so difficult to assess definite needs at this time. He will be at Crozer for at least a month. He was able to walk down the hall and wave to everyone in the waiting room yesterday. This is something we will try to continue but will need to see how he is feeling each day. It is evident having his brothers with him is helping him mentally. We are incredibly grateful for the love and support from everyone. We appreciate all the offers to help at this time. We promise to reach out when we figure out what we need. We have a long road ahead of us. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! Please stay safe and take care of each other during this difficult time.

The kids told him he should be a mummy for Halloween!"

The 4th Wilmington FF is Ardythe Hope. She is suffering from severe airway burns.

    Praying for the injured firefighters.

My dad was NYFD - this was my greatest fear everyday growing up. I feel and pray for the families.
