The one I grab from the safe most frequently is a Marlin 795 with Tech sights. Cheap, fast accurate and reliable.
My little 510 and 597 Remingtons are embarrassingly good guns for the prices I paid for them, less than $100 each. They both looked like garbage when I bought them. Kids prefer the Nylon 66 when given a choice. A 66 was the first gun Jerry Miculek ever shot and he will still tell you how much he liked shooting it. Also, when the US Army was testing .22's for possible full auto conversion during Vietnam, the 66 had the highest rate of fire of any gun they tested.
