Going through some brass to reload for my .308. I was pretty sure that the batch I was working with was all Federal "FC 308 Win" stamped. Ran across one with "FC 71" on it. Same thing or ditch it?

FC or FED with caliber and without a date is commercial ammo/cases.

FC with a date is mil spec. Since Federal runs Lake City, when things are slow, they run brass and feed it into their commercial products, so you can sometimes see this happen.

Thanks! So is it equivalent to "308 Win FC"? As in, can I shoot it in the same batch and expect the same results?

Weigh the brass and compare it to other stuff you're using to get an idea of internal volume. You can also see how much water it holds.

Don't forget for NATO|Military rounds, you will need a swaging tool to remove the primer pocket crimp. Yes there are other ways, but a swager is much easier (at least for me)

    Not necessarily.

Weigh them or measure the case capacity.

For .308/7.62 there is a difference in case capacity between mil and commercial brass.
