I have a mix master Swedish M40 Lahti pistol that has been the bane of my existence for years. Have tinkered with it endlessly, replaced about half of it with new bits to no avail. Just can't get it to function reliably. So when I saw this Lothar Walther 4mm conversion kit at the last Redding auction I just had to have it. Figured I'd find a way to make this pistol useful by coming at it sideways!
The Swedes used these kits for training and it fits live a glove. Had to lightly drift it home with a wooden dowel, it was that snug. But it went in perfectly and now I just have to place an order for some 4mm M20 ammo to test it. The 4mm rounds are just primers with a No7 ball round. They fit into a cartridge adapter, just like my French Tir Reduit or a Springfield Hoffer Thompson training rifle.
The ammo isn't cheap on this side of the Atlantic (it's common in Europe) but this M40 hasn't been taken out of the safe for years so I think some good will come of it.
Here's a good link to a Swiss site with a Lothar Walther kit for a SIG 210, pretty much the same as mine.
And it gets even better! There was a 2nd 4mm conversion barrel in the kit, not a precision LW product. But calipers confirmed it was for a 9mm barrel so I grabbed the first 9mm pistol in the safe and had at it. It just fit onto the Star Model A and the extractor clears with the barrel oriented properly. This could be interesting!

Now your A looks like the carbine...
wait, that's a really early A... (adjustable sight ala 1922)... tell me more (or PM) :)

Are the adapter "cartridges" readily available too?
I think the PPK kits came with a handful of 'em.

I found a place in Europe making and selling them. It would be nice to have a few more.
