Eh, personally I rather know if the doctor I'm seeing at the moment is more interested in being a social engineer and supporting political rhetoric over fact, than in practicing medicine.
It's been beat to death here before but if a doctor asks you if you have guns in the home, ask him why he's not asking you if you have any 5 gallon buckets or stairs since both of those are much more likely causes of injury or death.

I would bet that most of the docs who ask about guns in the home are very good docs. They are the "no stone left unturned" kind of people who believe in going the extra mile for your health and safety. They went into medicine to make a difference, and will try to look at every aspect of your life. I think it is a bit elitist, but some of the best doctors in the world think they are the best doctor in the world.
Well that's only because the bill of rights is protection against the government, not individuals.
There are still private property rights I assume.
But with obama care requiring the question....
Plus, if you lie, it's tax evasion. Right?
Yes, the proprieters can still hand gun free shingles, but the docs cant ask solely about guns in the home while conducting business.
Its one step closer to being normalized as a right, such as you cant be chastized about your religion in a doctors office.

I am always amazed that people feel some need to answer a question that isn't relevant to the issue at hand. Most of my Dr visits are due to sports related injuries. Unless my knee or ankle has a bullet hole in them, I don't feel that firearms questions are relevant to my medical care.
The key reason the lawsuit was initiated was the actions of the doc AFTER the patient refused to discuss guns (the doc refused treatment). In my mind, that's how a concept gets corrupted-a question with a purpose of safety no less different than a question about dangerous chemicals in the home becomes a tool for punitive actions.
Now, I've never had a provider question me about guns, I've never asked and the ones I've spoken to aren't too focused on them (except the Pediatric providers), but if asked I would just politely reply 'irrelevant', and suggest we move on.
We only hear about the bad experiences, but most internists' don't push these agendas.

It's none of their damn business if I own a gun or not. And a Dr. refusing to see a patient that won't answer that that question is pure BS. Do they ask if you have any knives over 3" or whatever? And don't most Drs. think they are great Drs even when they are hacks?
Unfortunately, most of those with M.D. after their names who should not have a license to practice medicine also think they are the best doctors in the world.

The MSM appears to be re-injecting this story into the news stream through editorials and regurgitation. Seems like they're framing the legal victory as a 1A triumph. Yay! The doctor has a RIGHT to ask about and document your firearms ... but apparently you don't have the privilege to refuse to answer.
So the State is wasting taxpayer money defending against frivolous lawsuits. You pesky gun owners need to stop costing us money.

I have refused to answer. They wrote "refused" right on my chart. I found a new doctor, he didn't ask.

Currently I'm not too worried about getting denied care. One of my docs has a small 3 room home office in which they keep a loaded handgun in 2 of them. I've handled both of them and recently stopped by without an appointment to show them a new acquisition. No chart notations for me
