Not a lot of 13" hbars out there.

I like that look too and did something similar to my SBR. Honestly though, it all started because i ordered the wrong hand guard.

I ended up shimming the muzzle device out to get the break past the hand guard and put a hand stop on the end. I love this set up, its a fireball shooter with the right ammo

Yes, it would.

Brownells has a Colt 11.5" Heavy barrel in stock. Unfortunately, it's pretty expensive but it's an option.

Geissele offers an 11.5" Heavy barrel but I can't find it in stock anywhere currently.

AJ....if youre building an AR pistol (less than 16 inches with a brace) it doesn't need to be an HBAR...that's only for rifles.....haven't I taught you anything????

I have the same thing on my 300 BO and it works great.

The only issue I have with new builds and open handguards is gas hitting my hand during early shooting until carbon fills in the gaps at the gas block. It feels like an electric shock.

Well, Einstein, 11.5 rifles requires a longgg pinned muzzle device....

I've used the Presma handguard on my competition PCC build. It's not gonna set the world on fire, but it works well enough. Really, the biggest problem with the cheap handguards is that they're not dehorned very much, and can be somewhat uncomfortable without gloves. The Presma was fine in this regard. I vaguely recall the Combat Armory handguard being more of a problem.

Erwos hit the nail on the head.
Jon, I have a Monstrum handguard you can fondle and understand the sharp edges. I have been tempted to take a Dremel to edges and then painting the handguard.
