One of the big things announced at SHOT was a factory threaded 21A, which I think is a much better plan.

Maybe. The Beretta 70-series guns are larger and more shootable. I've got one myself - and yes, I had the barrel threaded. It's not quite an old-production Walther PPK, but it's an excellent gun.

The Beretta 21s? I had one, sold it (foolishly) and bought a second recently. The trigger on the new gun is not nearly as good as the old one. But the new threaded-barrel guns? I'm in for one.

I like my 71, don't get me wrong, it's a great shooter and probably the only "combat-grade 22" out there. Factory support is kinda rad, though, and that's where the 21A shines.

These baby Beretta's with tilt up barrels are very nice suppressor host guns. I've got them with threaded barrels in .22LR, 25ACP, and 32ACP.

I wouldn't say that. I'm old enough to remember almost every major manufacturer making a .22 version of their pocket pistol. Walther had .22 PPs, PPKs, and PPK/Ss. Beretta had the 70 and 71, and the 87 is still in production (great gun). You could buy the Astra Constable in .22 LR. Or a slew of S&W revolvers.

There are too many people these days who think that the only guns worth shooting use expensive centerfire ammo.

I am working through the backlog. One of the tasks was to remove the barnacle from the nose of a Beretta 71. The weld was located at the 2-o'clock position, and was deep enough to completely fill the grub screw's hex. Tried to drive the screw out with a punch, but called "no joy" after multiple attempts. I ended up center-drilling, breaking free with an easy-out, then gently tapping a Torx driver into the hole to get juuuust enough purchase to get the remainder out.

The importer was unkind in the assembly process, and munged the threads on the barrel where the grub screw contacted. Took some PB Blaster, time, and gentle persuasion to get past the galled section. Will need to chase the barrel threads with a die; don't really care about the faux can.

As for the "can" ... it's a solid steel tube.

    That. Is. Downright. Criminal.

I inherited my dads backup piece which was a Beretta Model 70 in .32ACP and it is a fun gun to shoot. New set of grips and grip screws and 3 extra clone magazines set me back more than the gun is worth probably but it was worth it to me. Will get pictures up when I get home.
