    Hello!
I was wondering if there are any Maryland legal variants of rifles such as the FAL, CETME, M14, Galil, and other nato Cold War era weapons. The list on MSP lists very specific variants and I was wondering if that extended to all. Thank you!

    Sure.

CETME: CETMEs are legal, or should be. They are not copies of the HK91/G3.

M14: Norinco M14s are legal due to being metric conversions and parts incompatible.

Galil: The Galil SAR should be MD legal, provided you replace the FH with a brake. It uses different parts than the regular Galil AR and ARM. It is definitely good to go as an SBR. The Micro Galil, while sexy and legal in 11" form, is not a Cold War gun (introduced in 1994).

G3: You're kinda SOL on this one. Closest you can get now is a CETME.

FAL: This one is very tricky. I've seen some people claim inch versions are NOT banned, but I am skeptical this is the case. Otherwise, you're basically SOL.

AK: 5.45 AKs are both Cold War correct and legal. There are also some "correct" AK SBRs, such as the AMD-65.

M16: You know the drill with ARs. SBR or HBAR.

The semi auto HK G3 made for Golden State Arms in the 60s might be legal since it has a front push pin receiver unlike an HK91, but they're priced in the five digit range more than what a registered receiver transferable HK91 goes for.

Some HK41s might be considered legal too if the shape of the semi auto shelf is considered sufficiently different from the HK91 pattern.

MARS Equipment CETMEs are 100% factory Spanish guns.

There's the SIG 510 variants of the AMT and I think a few PE-57s too.

MSP's website says the BRN-PROTO is legal. There is also the BRN-10 PROTO if you want an retro looking AR-10.

For a BM59 build on Garand receivers, some people have them milled to take M14 mags so it's neither a BM59 nor M14.

Not really Cold War retro, but the BRN-180 is basically an AR-18 mechanism in an AR-15 style forged receiver.

Czech vz.58 variants like the Century VZ-2008 are popular.

MSP's website says the Zastava M76 and Century M76 are fine.

French MAS 49 family is fine

RPDs like the DSA's builds are fine.

MSP also says the Century import PSLs are fine.

Thank yall! Trying to make sense out of what is actually banned is kinda difficult. And I heard that the list on MSP is not actually binding at all? Gotta love Maryland

Correct. The list is the MSP's interpretation of the copycat tests in the statute. Consider the list to be the current enforcement scheme of the law. Could be subject to change at any time based on a change in interpretation or perspective.

The first step of making sense of Maryland Firearms rules , is to accept that they Don't make sense .
