IIRC 5 or so years ago maybe longer there was a billboard along 95 around the Fort McHenry tunnel stating automatic 5 years for committing a crime with a firearm. I don’t know it it was federal, state or local. The billboard didn’t stay up long. What happened to that law?

But, but... the politicians want us to know they are really serious this time by making these serious crimes even more illegaler. Of course, with DA's like Mosby, any charges will ultimately be dropped, except in cases where those sinister law abiding gun owners are caught with dangerous looking weapons of mass destruction or if the hues of the "criminals" are of the paler shade.

You forgot all the judges who hand out misdemeanor sentences for mild infractions like murder and manslaughter. Unless it's a member of a certain race...
What we have isn't weak laws, but rather weak politicians and judges. And in addition to being weak, they're also absolute masters at manipulation, and of individually and collectively deflecting attention away from their own pitiful performances.

    Beat me to it!

    Excerpt from https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Legislation/Details/SB0852

"Requiring the Commissioner of Correction to provide a certain inmate with a reentry kit that includes clothing, an identification card [for voting?], contact information on reentry services, information on Medicaid and the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, and transportation; providing that a person who uses a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence is guilty of a felony and establishing certain penalties; prohibiting a dealer or other person from selling, renting, loaning, or transferring a regulated firearm under certain circumstances; etc."

So, crime is extra criminal, criminals will have difficulty buying guns legally, and ex-cons get free stuff. Got it.

To repeat what has been said here numerous times, just hand down the maximum sentences that are already on the books. We don’t need politicians grandstanding to have us believe they are tougher on crime than their predecessors. Every time you turn around there is a new law proposal. Good grief. Enough is enough.

Oddly enough, criminals by definition ignore laws.

There must be a way around this problem; perhaps deputizing the MD GA, arming them, and turning them loose in Baltimore? They must be good for something. "Targets" comes to mind.

To quote Admiral Akbar: "It's a trap!"

I feel certain that if you look closely, there will be infringement legislation wrapped up along with "going after criminals."

As for "Why don't we just enforce existing laws?" We already asserted that the sentence for stealing a firearm is only 6 months. That's weak sauce and is no deterrent.
Let's at least give existing laws some real teeth.

The reality of all this, is ,there would be more people who are non white, serving more and longer jail time.We cant have that because that would be considered racist.
