I’ve seen the threads where people ask about gifting someone a firearm but it’s usually they want to buy a new firearm for that person. I’d like to gift a long gun I don’t need to my brother. It was bought by myself this year and I just don’t shoot it often enough to justify it taking up valuable real estate in my gun cabinet.

He’s not a prohibited person so can I just give the firearm to him the next time I see him or do I need to do a bill of sale for $0.00 and get a signature? Or do I need to do something else?

If the long gun is not regulated and you both are Maryland residents, then you are good for a face to face transfer of a firearm you already own.

Also, it is assumed the firearm is not on the banned list either.

Hand it to him, say "Happy Birthday" and carry on.

That’s what I suspected but you can never be too careful when it comes to Maryland and gun laws so figured I would double check. We’re both in MD and it’s not a banned nor regulated firearm so he’ll get it next time I see him.

If you have any other non regulated non banned long guns you don’t want I can demonstrate how this face to face transfer works.

    Just trying to be helpful.......

Yes , you may just give it to him .

While not required , you could also give him a simple Bill of Sale for his records, in case if a future insurence claim or whatever .
