Looking for someone who is a member of the Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association to give me info about the range and if they are taking members. I am interested in joining here but am apparently not allowed to even visit the range unless I am a member and in order to submit an application I need to reference a current member. I also am unaware of any public activities they have which would allow me to meet someone who can pint me in the right direction.

P.S. Also wondering if this is a good range to join as well, it appears that it is highly restrictive and a pain to become a part of. I live in Pasadena and this range would be the most convenient, since stoney creek has so many rules and regulations this is my next option.

    Thanks

Gave my membership up because I could never shoot there.

The restrictive hours are bad enough, but the 4 times I was able to make time to go over and shoot last year, I would have to leave because of some match going on that would shut down the entire rifle line, or there was some repair being made that would take an entire range offline.

Couple that with the range officers' never ending "Hi, My name is Bill....are you a member here?", despite my badge being clearly displayed and it was too much.

I live 2 miles away and it was more trouble than it was worth.

That is what I kind of figured, do you mind me asking if you became a member anywhere else. Also I was looking at Twelfth Precinct Pistol and Archery Club since that is in the area and they seem much more laid back.

Not a ton of options for shooting - but nice folks from what I've seen.

I'm joining an AGC club. It's farther for me to go to shoot, but at least i know I can get in there and that people will leave me alone.

I live just 10 minutes from AAFG, but have never been there. I have been a guest at Berwyn. The earlier hours have convinced me its the better option, despite the additional 15 minute drive time.

We do have restrictive rules at AAF&G due to our location. We operate under a court order and control the people who wander around because we have had anti gun people slip in and take pictures. As for ranges being shutdown for maintenance, that does happen on occasion but, as much as possible, it is posted on our website and in the range paper.

I have been a member of several ranges in Maryland and they all have more restrictive rules these days. Berwyn was under court order for years and may still be, I don't know. At AGC, the BOD had to buy the houses behind the range after some bullets wound up in their yard. Stony Creek was almost closed after the golf course was put in. They also had to make more rules to continue operation.

I used to go out back and shoot if I wanted to. I can't do that anymore due to development. So, we adapt as we have too.

If the OP wants to come to AAF&G, he should come on Saturday between 10 and 1. The gate will be open and there will be plenty of people to talk to about joinng the club.

None of that necessitates ROs fingering every firearm and questioning everything you do. Whoever is running the RO program needs to understand that people want to be left the hell alone.

Once you see my badge, leave me alone. It's none of your business who I am. I'm there to shoot and I have enough friends.

I was a member for nearly 10 years before I finally got fed up with the nonsense.

Norton's response notwithstanding, I have never had that kind of experience there. I went for a while to the AR matches before getting a sponsor and becoming a member. The process to become a member is rather long, and as John from MD mentioned, it is important due to the extra safety measures being in close proximity to houses and RT. 50. I don't get there as often as I would like but just renewed for a 3rd year. OP, if you are interested in going, I would be happy to arrange a time to take/meet you there and show you around. PM me if interested.

The Twelfth is definitely more laid back, and not far from AAF&G, but it is just pistol and .22 rifle.

The range orientation at AAF&G takes some commitment....

There are over 30 clubs that meet at the AGC. I am sure you can find one that suits your needs for activities. I visited several before I settled on Monumental. The AGC offers 4 trap fields, a shotgun patterning range, an archery range, 100 position 100yd range, a 200 yd High Power range, and a 56 position 25/5o yard pistol range. Take a look at the member clubs on the AGC website (www.associatedgunclubs.org).

OP, you posted a very similar question earlier in the month. Myself and others tried to answer your questions at that time including the fact that you can visit (and shoot) during public events, or as a guest of a member. Today you've gotten info about AAF&G, as well as a generous offer to meet Overboost at the club. Here's my posting from a couple weeks ago:

Enowacki, you mentioned the locked gate at AAF&G. That's there for a reason. Our club is located in a very suburban area and operates under stringent hours restrictions. Becoming a member gives you a key card to enter the range grounds. Having the key card to open the gate implies a huge level of trust in the individual. Without a locked gate, it's easy to imagine that someone might swing by "try out the range" outside of the specifically permitted hours. Besides being potentially a danger to themselves or others, they could break the shooting hours rules. If you want to learn about the club, the best way to do so is to look at the upcoming events which are open to the public, like IDPA or Appleseed...and then sign up to participate. I guarantee that someone will be willing to talk about, if not, actually give you a tour of the grounds. I known because I've done that for total strangers who come by when the gate is up. It's all about paying it forward ... spreading the word and safely experiencing shooting events.

12th Pct also has indoor and outdoor archery, and indoor pellets IIRC. My only complaint is that there are a lot of steps down to the pistol range, and it's less than convenient when carrying a lot of gear. They have plans for a new range on the upper level that might be done later this year. I've been a member for two years and most likely won't renew since I prefer to shoot at AGC even though it's an hour farther away from my house.

What's yout interest? Rifle? Pistol? 22 lr? 22 lr has less restrictive hours. Best way to join is to shoot in matches and meet so some people.

If you want to shoot pistols, AAFG has a "plinking" range which never has matches and is rarely busy.

The rifle range has matches the first and third Saturday of each month (maybe the 4th too). Shooting hours are 10 to 1 PM on Saturdays due to the court order, but the match usually wraps up by 12 leaving an hour to shoot. It is what it is.

I've never had an RO touch any of my firearms.

It is one of the more tedious clubs I've been in, but some of it isn't by choice and it really isn't that bad.
