Yes, it can be done. Safely, not really.

135 gr Nosler, 12.0 gr of Longshot which is a published load by Hodgdon in 2002.

Glock 20 with stock length Lone Wolf 40 S&W barrel. Chronoed at 1720 fps average.

Yeah, backing off this one a little. 11.5 gr is the max load currently published by Hodgdon. That doesn't bulge cases like this.

Interestingly enough, I talked to Hodgdon and they said they reduced the the max load to 11.5 gr not because of pressure, but because it generated too high of slide velocities.

It is a 10mm (with a 40 S&W barrel in it)! Got a Glock 40 on the way. Curious to see what a 7" barrel will net me.

Interesting note is that a 40 S&W will outrun a 357 SIG (staying inside their respective SAAMI pressures).

Brutal. Makes a 9x19 feel like a bb gun though.

ETA: Interesting note about Longshot is that it has no perceptible flash.

It explodes water bottles nicely. 800X is still the velocity king, but that metering, oh dear lord.

Could I mount that to an XL650?

ETA: I guess I could use a powder funnel die, that wouldn't be too bad.

12gr longshot over a 135gr is a fairly well known "nuclear"40 load, the powder is incredible, you run out of room before you get over pressure, have hit stupid velocities in 10, 38super and 460 Rowland with it. Lots of people turn their nose up at 40, but you can load it from 300-600FPE from standard 9mm power all the way to match moderate 10mm loads, not much else can do that in an auto. I've loaded the 12gr under a 135gr nosler, only got to about 1500FPS from my 4.5" XDM though, wonder if the OP is using a 6" or longer barrel.

I would call these particular loads over pressure. That's a well supported barrel.

    Not in MD anymore!!
I've been getting 1500 out of my AR-10MM carbine I built. These were 180 gr and bought right off the shelf. Be very careful, I tried some reloads with 12 gr's of bluedot and the gun was ripping the cases in half on extraction, had to get out my dental pick to extract the remainder of the case out of the breech.
