went and shot a 22LR revolver and noticed some split cases

got 3 Remington split cases out of one cylinder load ???????

this was old ammo and I checked around and was told this is normal with Remington brittle copper 22LR cases

gonna shoot again with some new CCI ammo and see

    any thoughts........

I can't say I've ever seen that. How old is the ammo? It looks nasty.

don't know how old, was given to me - it was a mix of a lot of different brands. but The 3 split cases were Remington ????

found this thread on MDS - seems to be a Remington thing

wow and I'm a Remington guy

note - found by accident - I checked the cases on the revolver to see how it's hitting - on auto's they fly everywhere and nobody checks them

if the case was too small to begin with - it could split

They would only be Remington if the "U" stands for Union Metallic Cartridge Co., one of their ammo divisions. Maybe they used to make .22lr a long time ago as I don't think that division has made rimfire ammo in quite awhile. Current Remington rimfire ammo is stamped "Rem".

interesting, I shot all the nonplated 22LR (about 100+)

still have plated 22LR - U found out from 1869 up to 1961

still have some 22 LONGS from the estate - mostley marked H for Henry / Winchester used from 1865 to about 1990. They were called Kopper Klad

maybe I should keep them as a collector item for guys to use when they buy the empty boxes

I had a few bricks of them with some split cases . Sent them back and got a refund was during the ammo crises of 2012.
