I think I have learned my lesson, IT's worth the drive to Gun Connection.

Were it not for the fact that it'd be a total of 8+ hours of driving for me I'd consider going to him. Between gas and the total time required, it's not worth it for me currently. If I'm ever on that side of the bridge on consecutive weekends or a week straight I will probably go.

"after seven days have elapsed..." means you pick up on the 8th day as long as it's not a Sunday or a Holiday.

The topic of regulated weapons not being released on the 8th day, due to no paperwork back from MSP, seems to come up quite a bit. You could search the forum and probably find a lot of the information that has been discussed previously.

However, to summarize a lot of the discussions, state law states that the MSP has to respond within that 8 day period on "disapproved" applications. The FFL can transfer the weapon after the seven days have elapsed without the paperwork if a "disapproved" was not received. I don't think you're going to win the argument with the FFL if they're set on not releasing the firearm without the paperwork... it's them covering their own a$$. You can however demand that you get your money back and go elsewhere, but you run the risk of that FFL conducting business the same way.

Same thing with the NICS check, if by the fourth day they have not received a response the FFL can transfer the firearm... once again, they may cover themselves and make sure.

I haven't seen anywhere that it says they "have" to transfer the weapon, so it seems as though they won't until they get the "not disapproved".

    Yes, it's a pain...

I'm on my 7th day since ordering (6th since the form was submitted). I went to Accurate Guns and Ammo near Leonardtown last Tuesday after work. Mark said his position is that he does not release the weapon until he hears from MSP - no matter how long it takes. So, I knew that up front and still made the purchase.

I should have asked them what their policy was. I still would have bought it there, since it was the only place near me that still had the gun I wanted. I could have gotten it online and transfered it but with shipping it would have been even more than I paid for it here in Salisbury.

    I don't drive like a grandmother....
It'd be 2.5 there, 2.5 back, and double that for the trip to go pick it up, so by your measurement, 10 hours instead of 8....

As far as stocking up on ammo is concerned, I would wait until you are approved to get some 40 s&w. Every place that sells ammo in the Salisbury area is stock to the **** with .40sw. Very little 9mm or .223 around, but plenty of .40. You should have no problem picking up 500+ rounds of target ammo. In fact, Gander mountain has a bunch in stock, as of yesterday.

Well, that's good to know. And at least they're stocking it at Gander Mtn. so I can pick some up at the same time if/when my paperwork ever returns.

    Day 8 continues...

Just how thorough is the background check, I wonder? I've never done anything worse than speeding, but I was born out of the US (now a US citizen for 4 years) and have lives here since I was 9. I wonder if that may be the holdup.

You guys are great! I purchased my .380 last Tuesday and was told to call today. I did and was told the paperwork was not back yet. I was a little puzzled to what that meant.

The last gun I purchased in Maryland was a Glock and it was in Rockville. Guy told me to pick it up in 7 days and it was there.. No problems. Now I know this is a common problem so I don't feel so bad anymore...

I will wait and see if this place will release my gun on the 8th day or wait for the paperwork... Going forward I will only deal with gunstores that release on the 8th day. I know I am no criminal or I would not have been able to purchase my guns in the past.
I understand they want to cover their butts, but you took my money in full and earning interest.. I think I should have possesion of my firearm if the law allows.

I'm thinking there's some kind of massive backlog going on right now... because you and I aren't the only ones in this situation...
    pooh to that.

I think 8 days comes from the "after seven days" mentioned in the letter. It would have been more exact to have said, "on or after the seventh day." But, I was only a paralegal supervisor in child support; I am not an attorney.
