Found it here in the MDS classifieds.

I still have a lot to learn about these but the seller put me at ease with his honesty and experience.

Based on serial number it was manufactured in April 1943.

Based on the stamps, armourer's marks and other evidence, it appears to be complete and correct - all parts Remington and from the correct time period. Doubtful it ever went through an arsenal rebuild. Barrel is stamped February 1943.

In addition to the rifle I came away with the case, a box of .30-06 and some stripper clips for it.

Thanks again to the Gentleman who sold me the rifle and for answering all my rookie questions. I couldn't possibly be happier with the deal.

Enjoy, I have a few of them. I have serious ménage à trois with them and my Garand.... so satisfying! The cigar afterwards is just icing on the cake.

47.5 gr of H335 and a FMJ 150 gr boattail work great.

Congrats, this site is full of way too many who look for the cheap way out. Do it right the first time, invest the money on a correct, documented firearm that you can be proud of, you will never regret it. Good luck.....

An excellent start down the rabbit hole of the Model 1903! I think the use of Mauser's design and the royalties paid to them were worth every penny. I like the Krag but it definitely wasn't in the same league as the Mauser 98 design.
I've been watching the TV series The Pacific and it's neat to see the Marines carrying Springfields and Reising SMGs in the early 'Canal episodes. Also neat to see the Marines eyeing up M1 Garands when the Army arrived on the scene.

    Thanks again guys.

Still on the hunt for a “mostly matching” 1940-43 SA Garand with old wood.

I went over the 1903A3 a little better and got some pics of barrel stamp and faint cartouches on the stock. Barely make ordnance wheel and FAJ stamps.

She always finds out. The dogs either can't or won't lie

My wife has finally gotten to the point that she just doesn't care anymore. A very long and large, vaguely rifle-sized box arrived the other day (picture thread will come soon) and she said "What's that?" I said "gun parts" and she just shrugged and went about her business.

I wasn't lying per se. They were gun parts, they just happened to be appropriately assembled into the form and function of a nearly complete rifle. :lol2:

As the wife of one of my other long-time C&R friends said, "At least it's not drugs, alcohol, or porn. there are worse 'addictions' out there and at least this one gains value."

Sometimes I think my wife wishes it was alcohol or hookers :sad20:

But she has sure mellowed over time. She did get real excited when I said I was probably going to sell one of my SKS soon*.

Less happy when I said "because it opens some room in the safe".

*I need to get it to the range first. It is a complete mix master and seems to check out fine, but I want to ensure it functions properly before selling it. Pure shooter (supposing it does! :lol2:). Good metal, but a mix of parts from a Norinco, Soviet and a Yugo stock, missing bayonet parts and the receiver cover pin has the detent snapped, but it functions fine for retention (and they can be replaced, I just haven't tracked one down).
