Transporting a Mk18 to Maryland

Gentlemen (and those who don't necessarily fit that moniker)

My son (who lives in Tennessee) just purchased a "Daniel Defense Mk18 Pistol". He would like to bring it with him next time he comes to Maryland so we can shoot at the local range together. Would he be legal bringing it into Maryland? DD's specs say it's 28 and 3/4 inches in length. Any hoops to jump through in order to have/shoot it here? Thanks!

Better post in the "NFA" forum. I think he'll have to get approval from all states he'll travel though. I think.

An AR pistol is fine. SBR's <29" OAL get tricky.

May find that ATF will not approve the Form 20.

If it's a pistol and not permanently staying here I think it should be ok. I think. A pistol is not NFA. An SBR can be converted to non nfa by putting a 16" upper on it and then it's just a rifle.

If it's a <29" SBR BATFE will not approve it even if possessed before 10-1-13. A VA forum member has his Form 20 denied even though he possessed it before 10-1-13.

If it's a handgun he's fine.
