My Dillon 550 had a problem with the trap door that drops the spent primers sticking open. Did some reading and it seems to be a common complaint.

My fix was to take a 1/4 oz stick on wheel weight and attach it to the upper portion of the trap door to give it enough weight to close reliably. Seems to be working great! *note: I had to move the weight a little further down than what is shown in the picture with only the door*

Hope this might help someone with the same issue. I’m sure you can ask any shop that does tires for a wheel weight and they’d give it to you for nothing or close to it.

Thanks for the idea! I was also having this issue recently, but was trying to address it by using a fresh piece of straight wire (rather than the slightly bent existing piece) for pining the trap door to the 550.

Similar to what you did, I replaced the factory cotter pin with a straight pin and just bent the tip to keep it in place. Works much better.
