AR Retro Build need to buy Barrel

    OK,
I have an M16A1 parts kit that has everything but the Lower and barrel.
My lower is a Stag Pre August 2013 so I can put anything I want onto it.
I previously had an M4 Style carbine Upper on it so I'm pulling that off.

The front sight base in the kit looks like its 0.625" abouts. and gets pinned to be barrel.

I have not looked much but this is what I found so far.

Do these barrels have the slots to pin the front sight base?

This is what I acquired. It was the deal of the day @ $299
Yes you can request shipping w/o the magazine.

    No.

You would be smart to buy the option with the front sight base installed.

Aligning and properly installing a used front sight base using the proper taper pins is not a trivial DIY affair.

You can't just swap bases onto a drilled barrel.

Best advice is to pay someone who knows what they are doing.

    Another option:

I use green mountain a1 barrels and they are fantastic. The sight post is a challenge, but 2/0 reamers are inexpensive. I super glue or green loctite the base in place for drilling the barrel and only use new bits, then ream. Clark's ace has longer 2/0 pins if you need to go slightly oversize.

Buy a Green Mountain barrel and have John Thomas at Retro Arms Works pin a fsb. He does fantastic work and his prices are very reasonable.

Alternatively, Brownell's has a retro skinny barrel with a pinned fsb.

    Ok
I’ll get a barrel with the FSB
Looks like I get one with Non F marked and Triangle?

Here is a partial assembly pic

rear butt plate is cracked but not falling apart. Could epoxy from the inside after disassembling it again.
There is a minor crack in the hand guard.
bolt was missing 2 gas rings, I had spares so already replaced.

I'll get it functional first, then decide what I'll do with the finish. Either get the upper re coated or distress the lower and barrel to match the upper.

Barrel with assembled FSB arrived today. Put it all together except the front sling ring. Pic with a Standard capacity GI mag.
So I'm $450 into this plus my Pre oct 2013 Lower (priceless) and parts kit (did not use the surplus lower parts kit other than furnature)
