While I agree in principle that we shouldn't have to pay for an enumerated right, the reality is that we do, and anybody with a permit has done so. The only way to avoid the cost is to live in a constitutional carry state, and I don't.

So yes, I would pay a significant amount of money to get an unrestricted permit in MD. I know I'll get roasted for this, but if I could be guaranteed a five year unrestricted permit (no strings attached, like it being related to employment), I'd write a check for $500 today. Maybe more.
This is along the lines of my thoughts that I never got around to posting. It sucks to have to pay for a right...but that may be the only way I could exercise it. I certainly cannot now

Indeed

After retiring I maintained 9 permits as we traveled throughout this great country. Age now dictates a more austere life style. Of the nine, I dropped Maine (a constitutional carry state) and Connecticut, a state in which I never carried (the permit was the result of a class action suit I was involved in that brought CCW to the State). As the remaining ones come up for renewal, I will continue to cull them. The point is Iíve paid bookoo bucks over the years to make sure my family and I were as safe as possible. So yes, I will pay for those permits I need. In an imperfect world, itís just plain wise to do so.
