You can push in on the elevation knob to make the windage knob easier to turn.
I watched a couple YouTube vids and didn't tightened the screw anywhere near as tight as some of those instructed. The sight appears solid and the aperture doesn't move around. The elevation knob is fairly easy to turn with solid clicks. The windage knob takes a little effort but if I tighten the screw anymore, it wouldn't budge without pushing in the elevation knob. Should you have to push in the elevation knob? It's never been an issue on my other 3 garands, they all worked fine from CMP without any disassembly or cleaning.
