$1060 for CMP IHC Garand, is it worth it?

I watched a couple YouTube vids and didn't tightened the screw anywhere near as tight as some of those instructed. The sight appears solid and the aperture doesn't move around. The elevation knob is fairly easy to turn with solid clicks. The windage knob takes a little effort but if I tighten the screw anymore, it wouldn't budge without pushing in the elevation knob. Should you have to push in the elevation knob? It's never been an issue on my other 3 garands, they all worked fine from CMP without any disassembly or cleaning.

Every Garand when received from CMP should be disassembled, clean and properly lubed. Disassembled the rear sight and reinstall

Thanks for the link, that was actually a well done detailed step by step on CMP's part.
You're right, I clean and lube any new to me firearm, however unless it's caked in cosomoline, taking apart the rear sight isn't part of the program for me, unless it's not in working order.

Sounds like your rear sight is fine. I wouldn't mess with that pinion assembly unless it were necessary.

There was a time not long ago when rifles coming from CMP had rust under the sight base. That's why its a good reason to completely disassemble the rifle. It simple to do cant think of any reason not to.

I'll pop the spring cover off and remove the gobs of cosmoline hiding there. I just don't detail strip the pinion assembly,

You don't disassemble the pinion , just unscrew the windage knob, pull pinion and windage apart clean and properly grease and reassemble

I really don’t understand the blind loyalty to and defense of the CMP. They are not God. It was a great organization when Orest ran it. The new guy is a shlub. And Big Red - that guy needs a girl.

Hum, CMP was not chartered into existence to supply you with cheap firearms and ammunition. Their charter is to promote marksmanship and safety with the emphasis towards youth through the "sales" of firearms, ammo, etc
What hasn't gone up in the last few years besides wages?
If anyone doesn't like the way CMP is run they can always go to Gunbroker and pay hundreds more for the same Garand
I don't have any undying loyalty to CMP, they can double the price of their rifles if they want. They owe me nothing, I am not entitled to anything. Its their business they can run it how the please

No option for LMR, and yes at end of driveway. I’m worried they’ll make up a BS excuse about too much snow or something. I have a long driveway.

Not bad, no LMR barrel though. Has CMP stock. Some IHC parts but not much
