I keep hearing about gun stores closing and I'm getting a little worried.

Here is my list of recently closed gun stores.
Correct it if I am mistaken, add to it if you know of any others.

Remember that these shops were someone's livelihood and are now gone, probably thanks to SB281. No need to spit on their graves.

    REST IN PEACE

Belair Gun Supply & Pawn (Reopening?)
    Gun Rack
    Christian Soldier
    Arms International
    Fred's (Range Reopened)

    Constitutional Firearms
    Moore's Gun Shop
    Glade Valley Sporting Goods
    Fully Cocked
    Bart's
    Big Brad's
    Angus McGregor's
    Rayford Firearms

By my count 14 gun shops gone in the last 16 months and, say what you will, mostly they were real stores, not part-timers, not hobbyists, not backroom gunsmiths. It must be because they didn't wear matching polos.

You can add Constitutional Firearms in Howard County to your list. They also closed within the past year.

I think the reason is twofold; obviously the HQL requirement is a significant factor, but I also believe that many gun owners accelerated their gun purchases leading up to the implementation of HB281 in October 2013 and many of those gun buyers used up their discretionary gun purchasing funds for the short term.

Sorry to see them go. We do need to support local ffl if at all possible! This is the main reason we do free HQL classes

Cheaper online prices and availability is definitely one of the factors. I would like to buy my guns and ammo at my local gun shops, but if I am not in a hurry and the price is lower, I am getting it online.

Then there is Fully Cocked in Essex that remains fully locked because they never even opened to begin with. Nice sign though.

Some of those would have closed even if we had become Texas.

    Yes, Constitutional Firearms.

When Constitutional decided to close the owner notified customers of his reasons. The top of the list was the new restrictions, but he also said that the business was more of a hobby than a livelihood for him, so he didn't want to compete with the people who were doing it for a living.
