This morning I decided to make a custom leather rifle sling for my 45-70. Doing self help leather projects to hone my craft skills. I made it from heavy oiled cow hide. When I unrolled the full hide I found the figure 8 brand in the hide. Kind of cool and will cut it out and put in a frame.

Harry can you say what weight of leather you used.
After looking at your sling I want to try and make some for myself.
When doubled over to make the loops, what length Chicago screws /rivets would be right for the hide?
    Turned out nice/ looks good.

I'd add some padding if you plan on woods walking with that boat anchor. They sure are pretty but, man, talk about heavy.

Yes they are heavy, when I was out in the woods opening day i also was carrying my Magnum Research BFR 50 CAL S&W pistol with 7 .5 inch barrel for those 50 yard and under shots. Pistol on one side rifle on the other other wise I would just walk in circles.

 You reminded me doing the exact same thing. In 1975 I was home on leave and went hunting in PA. It was primitive season so I took my Brown Bess and a Ruger Old Army. The weather was to warm to sit so I miles, never saw a damn deer but I got a good workout.
