Actually love my Sig 1911 C3. Bought in 2013 before all the craziness.

@trickg, how do you like the sites on the Specialist? They look like they'd take some getting used to.
I don't actually have a Specialist - I have a full sized Government size Valor.

The sights...mine on the Valor are a single tritium dot front sight against a black U rear - it works well enough, but I prefer the 3-dot tritium combat sights on my Silverback. I like them better enough that I'm thinking of getting a different rear sight and swapping it out.

I have a Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander in 9mm and a Colt Competition model in .45. I figure I am covered in the 1911 area. I have the DW in my rotation along with my HK USP-C in 357Sig, or .40, or 9mm, and my Glock 43. Just depends on how deep I need to carry.

Not new to handguns,, but I'm a bit a 1911 neophyte... but for features I'm looking for:

    - Commander profile, 4" barrel
    - match trigger
    - tritium night sites
    - front slide serrations
    - rails incorporated on the frame
    - extended beavertail
    - match barrel
    - skeletonized hammer
    - .45 ACP

Essentially, I'm looking for a 1911 that will be concealable with the common modern enhancements that is high quality and will be reliable. Doesn't need to be a NIB $3500 Wilson, but I'm also in the camp of its better to have fewer but higher quality firearms.

I take your point though, I've got some homework to do. I've been scanning the 1911 forum as well learning.

    Springfield Armory.
IMO, I would skip the rails. Are you planning to carry a 1911 with a light? If yes, you might consider the additional weight that brings. I'm debating a SA Ronin. I have a Sig Emperor Scorpion 5". Sig does have one 1911 that fits your list. The Spartan 2 carry.

I ended up going with the Dan Wesson Specialist Commander in .45 ACP. Has everything I was looking for, and fit within my $2K budget (not including transfer fees). Thanks gents, I appreciate all of the feedback and opinions shared.

Nice choice Major. I was surprised that Springfield doesn't have a lot of Commander size pistols. Only the Ronin. And, Sig only has like 3.
