who is walking around with a 20" barrel pistol ?

    'Murricans, that's who.

But that's not the point, now is it? The BAFTE's "regulations" are subjective at best, and horribly broken at worst. Register an AR lower as a pistol. Add a brace or stock, is it still a pistol or is it a SBR? or SBS? (still haven't married a barrel to it yet ...) Add an upper with a 20" barrel ... it now meets the plain-jane "rifle" metrics, but is it still a pistol or SBR or SBS because "once a machine gun, always a machine gun"?

Yeah, I'm standing firm with "horribly broken."

My SBR is a 10.3 in barrel with a standard carbine receiver extension. It was JUST under 29 OAL with a standard magpul stock, but with a B5 Systems Bravo stock, it is clearing at about 29.25. This is due to the larger butt pad on the stock and also where the adjustment detent is on the stock, which slightly increases length of pull. The B5 stock happens to be a very nice stock as well - one of my personal favorites next to BCM stocks.

You could always use an A5 buffer tube/buffer and rifle spring and you would be good to go with any stock.

Thanks for the info.! Coincidentally, I like and have a NIB spare B5 stock and grip in my parts box. I was really interested in setting up an 8.3"-8.5" 9mm pistol, but for the sake of futureproofing for a MD SBR, ended up changing plans to an 11" 9mm AR barrel, which is the same length as a 10.5" 5.56 AR15 barrel, for the purposes of shopping for a compatible handguard OR measuring OAL.

I still need to provide feedback on the proposed new ATF rules on braces, We should ALL do that, regardless of whether you currently own an AR pistol. I need to think up a logical defense of keeping things as they are, other than suggesting they focus their efforts on enforcing the current laws as opposed to reinterpreting them, and that pistol braces and optics are safer for society than braceless pistols with fixed sights, which is what they will be creating more of if they decide to reinterpret the laws.

If and when the new rules take effect, for now I'm still planning on removing the KAK braces, keeping the optics, and using a sling for shooting. Applying for an SBR would make the ATF seem as if they were right in proposing the new interpretation of the rules and/or the fees submitted may even contribute to their budget; neither of which I want to do.

    A good week to all!
