Apologies if this was posted elsewhere on this site.
What do you think of 6.1 grains of bullseye under a 230 gr lead bullet. I read bullseye is a fast burner and there are better powders for a 45 colt but it is what imahve and i have never reloaded. The alliance on line manual says 815 fps cowboy load with 6.1 gr and a 230 gr bullet. I would shoot these in a 1908 colt SAA and a modern colt new frontier, 5.75 and 7” barrels, respectively.

Sounds about right but why not use trailboss? That same 6 grain charge will fill the case and won't be as sensitive to powder forward powder aft charges

    Can that powder run lighter?
I use Trail Boss in my 45 Colt with 200gr lubed LRNFP bullet (I'm no CAS though) And I've loaded it anywhere from 600-650fps which puts my energy at 160-188ft-lbs
I found I like it on the upper end.
I've seen factory cowboy loads of 45 colt to be anywhere from 200-300ft-lbs (maybe the upper end to be on the safe side for rifles?)

At 230/815 that puts you at 339ft-lbs

You may want to see what load data there is and how light you can go if you want a soft shooting cowboy load.

The reason i wanted a cowboy or light load is the old colt. That, and i don’t know what i am doing other than watching video, and reading, instructions.
