Allow other forms of payment for W&C application and renewals . Seems nuetral at first glance , but it's sponsored by Dumais , is there any downsides I'm missing ?

I haven’t read it yet but I’m pretty sure if it’s sponsored by dumbass there’s (plenty of) downside to it.

Retired state and county cops get W&C permit free. The rest of us pay for them in a manner however the licensing department requires.
If MSP starts doing this all online, it may go to Credit Card only? The conditions currently may be why the online application notice myth keeps getting turned in to vapor

The applicant [may] SHALL pay a fee under this section by [a personal check, 10
business check, certified check, or money order]

The state generates an inordinate amount of revenue from all the wear and carry permits they issue in this state and probably difficult for them to keep up with all the activity and this will make the process go so much easier for us. So nice of them to do this.

    1. They can make credit card payment the only option.
    2. Credit card companies are pressured to stop helping people get guns.
    3. No one can use a credit card for anything gun related.
    4. No one can get a wear and carry permit.
    The end.

I can see this coming down the pike! And in this state where your W&C is a privilege a court battle would be a waste of money.

I would have guessed going from "may" to "shall" was her(Dumais) trying to rub some of our noses in that change, but looking at the sponsors of SB0113 I'm not so sure.

Many have noticed MSP with notices of online W&C applications coming soon. This was originally posted as 2018 https://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/PublishingImages/HGP Announcement Poster 4.jpg
The true bureaucracy of Government won't let them take credit cards as currently written. This Bill doesn't have to mean they'd go exclusively credit card, but sure they can if they want to. If the Bill is defeated, it makes the online application less convenient for most people. Who wants to keep the current method of business check, certified check or money order only?

If it's hers maybe it lets people pay in North Korean and Cuban currency.

A METHOD OF PAYMENT APPROVED BY THE SECRETARY

If everyone without a business is happy using certified checks and money orders, and letting the applications sit at the post office a few days before they pick them up, can probably defeat this Bill. If people want a Pyrrhic victory just amend the Bill adding credit card to the current three accepted methods. Then when technology comes up with even easier ways to pay, can't use those either.

More than likely someone whined to her about a stopped-payment on a check that happened once five years ago if at all and this is Cankles' typical "How Dare They!" overreaction.

Do you know why the Maryland State a Police do not accept cash for transfers?

    Theft.

    Let that sink in.

So MSP can discriminate source of payment, but there is now a bill that prohibits landlords from discriminating source of income(drug dealer, section 8, vouchers) for tenants.
