It's known as the INSAS. Search "Indian INSAS" and you'll find a lot of information about it out there.

Indian small arms procurement - and defense procurement in general - beats any soap opera for sheer awesomeness. The corruption, backstabbing, crisis etc. is fantastic to watch.

Only place in the world that tried to copy the AK, improve it, and botch the execution. The resulting INSAS is horrific. The Indian attempts at a light fighter aircraft aka F-16, and a light helicopter, have also been mixed.

They did buy a whole bunch of Sig 716 308 rifles recently - 70k of them - and have active AKM production lines. So they use x39, 5.56, 308, 54R, and 303 calibers regularly!
