You made me remember a buddy of mine who fired a rifle with a bore spud in it and it split the barrel! You guessed it, it was a Savage now that I remember more clearly.
I can also recall him hating the brand ever since, lucky he wasn't hurt. Talk about something that will give you a flinch, Ha Ha.

About 20 years ago a guy was getting his brand new Ruger 77 boresighted at AGC. The "gunsmith" left the bore spud in the barrel and the first shot turned it into a banana. Of course the club bought him a new rifle but not in time for that years season. :sad20:

IMG_0330.JPG Had my son part the barrel and recess the muzzle. Lapped lugs and left .005 headspace. Lapped rings but did not adjust bedding or add a recoil lug. Also adjust magazine to improve feeding, lap bolt rails and bore sight. For the hell of it I had him break the end of the lands to 60 degree's while it was chucked up in his lathe just to see what would happen with the Winchester factory ammo I intend to use. Its 100gr. BT silver box.
Good cleaning with JB and kroil too.
