I have a bench top disk sander to give away. 12” size. The miter gauge is broken. The slider part that runs in the table slot is there but the top part of the gauge is missing. Central machinery brand (Chinese). Pickup in Clinton, MD.

Since there is interest in seeing the shaper, here are a few photos. The Sheldon is the biggest “little” shaper I could get into the basement shop. This one has the swiveling table and pressure oiling system. Despite the peeling paint and rust on the base it is is great shape.
It is not part of the giveaway!

Very cool! You should showcase more of your work. Seems you have some great pieces of equipment. I know I'd appreciate just looking at them, learning more.

Thanks for the pictures, and nice looking shop. Reminds me of my Uncle's basement shop from years ago. I remember helping him get is Mill-Rite Mill moved into his basement with a come-a-long. We were all lucky we didn't kill ourselves!

I have been collecting machine tools for a hobby shop for a few years, (and I did manage to aquire all of my Uncles tools when he passed away last year) and it's all crammed into my garage with no place to work, but I hope to build a backyard workshop in the not too distant future. I have had a 18"-24" shaper on my wish list, but every time I find something I want, it's on the other side of the country. I wouldn't mind making the trip to get it, but know for certain that I better have a place to put it when I get back or SWMBO will not be happy if she has to park outside in the winter!

I am sure it was exciting getting the Mill-Right moved. I have a small bridge crain setup over my basement stairwell and a ramp to go over the steps. Once I place a machine on the ramp I use a come along to slowly slide it down.

Your 18-24” shaper is gonna be heavy. My 12” Sheldon is a mere 1600lb. When you get your shop built let me know. I know of a vintage machine tool gold mine in the Pasadena area.
I have a bunch of old machines that are too big for the basement shop sitting greased up and under tarps in my backyard for a future shop. I am not sure when that will happen though.
It seems like we might need a machine tool thread some time

We will definitely need to talk about your secret shopping location!

I picked up a Bridgeport Series II about 3 years ago that is jammed in my garage waiting for me to build the barn. It weighs in at about 6000lbs. Got the Mill-Right in pieces next to it along with an older model 9" South-Bend lathe that I got from my uncles estate. Both need a little TLC as they were stored in an unconditioned space near the shore, but I have no doubt they will come back to life without too much effort. Picked up a nice old Do-All 20" band saw from a school auction too.

Still like to find that shaper, maybe a medium size horizontal mill, and a nice old Monarch Lathe, maybe a 16" or so, to add to the shop. I have an addiction to big, old iron!

Biggest issue is 3 phase power. I do have a 10HP rotary phase converter, but I would really love to get true 3 phase from Potomac Edison. I can SEE the dang wires on the pole about 1/2 mile away, but I suspect it will cost both arms and a leg to get it connected. Probably just look for a bigger rotary converter or bite the bullet and redo everything with VFD's.

Best of luck with your endeavors and enjoy that shaper!

I got your Monarch lathe right here.. it swings 18 or 20” by 10’ between centers the tailstock is tucked up by the chuck. It is a 1920s vintage. Your better build that barn big! Lol. Sadly this is one of the machines I have sitting greased and covered outside.

Nice Lathe, it's a beast to be sure! You are going to need one heck of a barn yourself! I look forward to hearing that you have that beast up and running.

If my plans pan out, I am hoping to build a barn about 45 x 50 as I am hoping to have at least one corner set aside to dabble in some blacksmithing and need a little space for a Power Hammer! :D

But there are a lot of miles between hoping and doing. Next year is the dream, reality will be what it will be and I am getting a little too long in the tooth to wait 5 years to get started. Heck, my kids are already saying "Dibs" on the new stuff I do manage to bring home! :lol2:

For the lathe, I was looking for something just a little bit newer (WWII era) with 48-54" between centers. Something that would turn 1000rpm would be nice too. They come up occasionally on the auction cites I frequent, (Those are like my personal Crack-Cocaine) but it's always a wrong time, wrong place, too much money, etc. situation, at least so far.
