While not a wholly reloading observation I have noticed using a factory 223 load with a handload using that brand brass point of impact was very close at 100 yards and grouped quite well. Using other brands of factory ammo groups opened a bit but their points of impact varied by a significant amount, 1.5 - 3 inches.

In 44 Magnum I have observed, with otherwise identical loads, some brands of brass did have a measurable effect on load statistics.

I sort depending on the caliber, rifle and purpose.

My .223 SBR, and .223 ARs get mixed headstamp, same with my 300 BLK SBR. All within recommended lengths, and a powder recipe that is a good all purpose one.

My .233 and .308 bolt actions get sorted by headstamp, primer pockets and holes uniformed and deburred, necks uniformed and I'll fire form the cases and neck size only. I'll even weigh and sort my bullets. Trickle up my powder on an Acculab to within .05 grains.

Of all the things I've tried and experimented with, I've found that neck sizing only and distance to lands makes a much bigger difference than sorting by headstamp or doing stuff like uniforming primer pockets. And all of that doesn't apply when you're dealing with gas guns.

Gotta weigh the cost / benefit of your time vs expectations.
