Two firefighters died and others were injured after a blaze broke out at a Wilmington house early Saturday, news reports said.

As firefighters went into the rowhouse, engulfed in flames and smoke, on the 1900 block of Lakeview Road, the floor collapsed, 6ABC reported. The fire was reported at about 3:15 a.m.

This was just reported on FB by a person well connected to the fire service on a national level. AHH&L was the company I was affiliated with when I was active years ago.

"We are sad to report that FF Jerry Fickes, one of the two Wilmington firefighters that died this morning, is a Member and Past Assistant Chief of the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Co."

A sad day indeed. May God welcome these brave heroes into his comforting arms. May God console the families left behind. May God help their fellow firefighters deal with such a painful loss. This world will never be the same again. We lost 2 heroes that won't be coming home to loving and cherished families. We must all take the time and pray for everyone involved and their families and extended families.

    May God Bless us all.

My prayers to the fallen firefighters, the injured firefighters, the injured civilians, and their families. A grim reminder of the dangers that firefighters face every day.

Rest in piece. There are far too few of these people in the world. We need all we can get in these times. Prayers for the families.
