    C&R purchase from FFL

I found a good deal on a C&R handgun in PA. I have a C&R license and live in MD. The pistol was listed as being C&R eligible but when I contacted the seller, he indicated he is an FFL (not specifically C&R) but that we could legally complete the transaction. Is that right? Can I do a FTF C&R purchase from this FFL seller in PA as a C&R transaction?

Not only can you do an FTF, you can have him/her mail it to you.

But for those who read this thread, appropriately titled FAQ'S, the answer would have been found. This thread is quickly going from a FAQ reference thread to an 'ask any question over and over again' thread.:sad20:

Actually, that is the first thing I did when I opened the thread but I did not see anything that dealt specifically with my question. I have had my C&R for some time now and know how it works between two C&Rs. I have received a C&R firearm through the mail. I get it. My question dealt with a C&R buying a C&R firearm FTF from an FFL (not necessarily FFL03). Not saying the answer is not here, but I didn't see it.

I'm kind of jumping in to this whole thing head first. just got my HQL and I ordered the C&R forms. is there an updated link for the list of C&R guns and the Maryland designated collector form. The old links in this thread don't seem to work anymore.

Anything manufactured 1963 or prior is C&R (or antique) since it's 50+ years old. There are exceptions made, these are listed in the ATF pubs. Rumor has it that these exceptions (requests) will no longer be processed and that's why there hasn't been a new list in 3 years. Remember that NFA rules still apply so a C&R full-auto still has to go through the hoops.

http://www.atf.gov/search/site/curios leads to links to the C&R lists.

Yep. The main advantage of using your C&R to buy an out of state qualifying C&R NFA weapon is that you don't need to go through an in state class 3 dealer (FFL/SOT) for transfer. The weapon will transfer directly to you under your C&R. That saves time, the dealer transfer fee, and a tax stamp fee if the weapon was on anything other than a Form 3 (such as a Form 4 or Form 5). All other aspects of the MSP and ATF approval process are the same.

Would the CLEO for Baltimore County be Chief Johnson of the Baltimore County PD? This is the last piece of info that I need to fill out.

I sent mine to chief johnson as that is what I had read in MULTIPLE posts after doing a search

I see that Century International (http://www.centuryarms.com/Century/pages/policies.htm) will not sell C&R directly to a Maryland FFL-03 (my interpretation).

    From their site:
"MARYLAND CUSTOMERS: We will sell used handguns manufactured prior to 1/1/85 as well as all Curio and Relic handguns to dealers only. No High Capacity Magazine Sales exceeding 20 rounds. Check for other Local & State laws before ordering."

So is this a trend, or are these guy just being ultra-careful?

My guess is handguns still need to be transferred on the 77r, just no HQL needed.
