I will totally get one of these if Maryland offers them.

Me too. In fact, if I can choose female I'll do that. I will then commence to use only the ladies room when I need to go. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

On a practical note, are DC licenses now in violation of the Real ID act?

"Gender" is a mandatory attribute in the REAL ID data requirements, and last time I checked "unspecified" (the language in the DC form) is not a gender.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAL_ID_Act#Data_requirements
    https://dmv.dc.gov/sites/default/fi... DMV Form Gender Self-Designation English.pdf

They could be issuing non-REAL ID "Limited Purpose Credentials" as they do for illegal aliens, but my guess is they will issue REAL IDs, and if called out on it by the Feds, waste a whole bunch of tax dollars to defend "gender X" in court.

Is there a good reason why a person's gender should be on their license to drive?

If a 14 year olf self-identifies as 21, can they get a license showing that they're 21? It's much less of a leap for someone to identify as a couple years older than for them to identify as something completely genetically and anatomically different. If our government doesn't provide high schoolers with licenses showing them as the age they identify with, they're ageist and society is violating their rights.

    Using logic is bigotry.
