My first gun was a single-shot .22 bolt action marketed under the Revelation brand by Western Auto. My parents bought it new for me in the early/mid- '60s and I think they paid less than $20. Looking back, I think it was a "store brand" Mossberg but I'm not sure.

Mine was as Savage Model 4C bolt action. Probably made in the 30's or 40's. I paid $13 for it from Baker's Gunsmithing in Bucks County PA back in 1976. Still have the receipt and of course the gun.

Ha! Mine was a Savage 3C: single shot bolt action.

Right after Pearl Harbor, my Aunt (Father's sister) joined the NRA to learn to shoot, and went on to serve with the Red Cross on the Italian Front. She bought the Savage to learn to shoot with, and it became the hand-me down rifle in our family.

Got it for Christman when I was 11. Sears Ted William Model 3T which is a rebranded Winchester 290. Still have it. Used to get a brick of .22LR every birthday and Christmas afterward. Got the Marlin 336C at 13. Still have it as well.

The first one I paid for with my own money was a Ruger SP101 with the 4"-full-underlug barrel.

The first one I ever shot was probably a Marlin Model 60.

Mine was a 10-22 I bought from a guy I worked with when we were still in VA. The only parts left of the original gun are the receiver, bolt and trigger guard. Everything else has been upgraded multiple times. I used it to qualify for my Appleseed Rifleman badge, and later to re-qualify for Winterseed.

Browning BL-22 lever action. Grin inducing fun.

nice gun, trigger travels with the lever, right?

well i shot my dad's remmy .22LR for years, forget the model. i actually grew up within walking (hiking) distance of the woodrow wilson bridge. we used to go down there and blast all the bottles and cans that washed up on shore from the potomac.

the first one i bought was the ruger mark ii semi handgun (i think that's what it is). still have it but haven't shot it in years.

Yes, the BL-22 has a short throw too.

I also really like the Remington 514 bolt action mentioned up thread. Such a nicely proportioned rifle. The CZ 452 American reminds me of this balance and feel.

Stevens model 15 single shot bolt action. Paid a neighborhood kid $1.00 for it after he found it in the attic of a house that they had just moved into. I had to send away for the bolt since it was missing from the rifle. That cost me another $5.00. Still have it.

My father had a Remington 511 from before I was born. If I had to start over, I'd go with the 511.

I'll have to check the Model # , but Savage bolt action, clip fed, that my father purchased new by mail order as a teenager in 1930s . Circa 1950 he restocked it in Zebrawood, from a blank ( ie , not inlet, just a blank of wood ).

First .22 rifle with my own money was Marlin (Glenfield) M60 , on sale for $39.95 .
