I don’t know about all of you, but I always feel like there’s always room to improve or become more efficient with how I do things. The Coronavirus situation got me thinking: we’ve been doing supply/grocery store runs since late January and a final one last week and we should’ve gotten everything in one trip back in late January when I had a feeling that this thing could become big.

I’m creating a list of everything I did and should’ve done, such as checking OTC medications, fish antibiotics for the goldfish, filling gas/propane tanks, etc... Aside from purchasing provisions, there’s also a decent amount of time at night taking inventory of what exactly we have already.

Another example, I always knew that if SHTF the first thing I would need to do is put Stabil in the car gas tanks to preserve the fuel. Of course I only had a small bottle of Stabil for the lawn equipment, so back to the store I went. It’s trips like this I am trying to avoid, so I thought a list would be helpful.

If this ever happens again, I’ll be able to check off everything in an orderly fashion instead of “I forgot frozen juice concentrate for the kids (because we never use concentrate), and I might as well get some frozen vegetables while I’m at it.” We should’ve picked these up on our first food run.

What all are you doing to learn from this event? Is there anything you would’ve done differently to prepare for Coronavirus?

I learned that the grocery stores can be like Black Friday Walmart. Best to avoid that mess if you can, especially if the people there might already be sick.

I calculated I only have 6 weeks of TP using my standard re-supply schedule. Using the Wuhan Virus schedule? My shit could be outta luck. There never will be anymore, ever.

Yep... I must admit that my preps were not geared towards disease crisis. I have plenty of bleach and alcohol on hand as part of my regular preps, but didn't have a supply of masks (not that I would have used them for this outbreak), gloves, and other kinds of disposable PPE. When things calm down a bit, I'll start buying a modest supply.

My view is that this outbreak reaction has been WAY overblown, but it serves as a wakeup call if this had been a real serious virus (think Marburg or something similarly nasty), then I would have had a lot of gaps in needed supplies.

I learned how correct I was in my assumption of how dumb the average person is. Just to scare you, half the people out there are dumber than that.

What I learned from this event is that if SHTF people in my area would work together.

I look at just the small city of Hagerstown above me and what a she-it show it is. In two weeks they would be starving and at each other. In 4 weeks they would be venturing our way thinking they can take what they want. I'm pretty sure they would be surprised by our response. You would think the National guard should be able to control that from happening, but there just won't be enough of them to stop the senselessness.

They say we have a Lizard brain that supplies instinct, a monkey brain section that run on emotion and a human brain that supplies reasoned thought. I have become convinced that half the population can only use the first two brains.

I posted a mention of this in another thread. I learned that my wife now takes prep seriously. I had really been doing all of my prep totally in secret and hiding all of those purchases, guns and ammo included. In seriously felt guilty at times when she wanted to spend money on certain things and I wouldn’t agree, while adding to preps or savings.

I took this opportunity to come clean. Shared all of the back supply stashes and savings accounts balances as well as guns and ammo stashes. We also now have firearms in our bedroom which had not previously been the case.

I feel better that we are on the same page now and I’m looking forward to having her more involved in the future should something happen to me.

I've always been very self sufficient - fix and do everything on my own, from cars to house, to electronics, basic medical stuff, etc. My wife has always appreciated it.

With increased gun regulation, I got lowers while I could (and joined MDshooters). Last year started adding ammo, just in case. Wife didn't quite get it, but didn't have a real problem with it. Then started putting away food in addition to our normal canning and smoking. She thought that was ok to an extent but sometimes thgouth it was a bit too far. Also started having her practice pistol with me one day a week.

Then she watched Chile, her native country, fall apart, over-run by socialists and free-loading immigrants. And now she's completely onboard. We're not nuts about it, but add things to the mix here and there.

If you take your time and don't go hog-assed wild, being moderately prepared for 'problems' doesn't have to be expensive or life consuming.

C19 taught me that my gut was right nad that this is the right thing to be doing. Now I have family members doing the same that previously mocked it.

I learned that if you make a prepper subforum it should be like the Watercooler off-limits to lurkers, closet socialists and assorted other 5-colomnists that have shown up lately.

If anything we should learn from is don't have everything made in China and not to have trust in the economy and politics. The world needs to hold China more accountable and look into what they do, there changing stuff and covering up things that they do, as you can see it’s endangering the world.
