16" heavy barrel in 5.56/.223 is legal (or longer).

I have been told if the caliber is different, you don't have to go HBAR (but still 16" or longer)

Ditto, looking under the guard it looks like a heavy profile out to the gas block. Looks like a winner. Only scary part is it says 'lightweight' in the title which methinks is an advertising error. Wouldn't hurt to call or email them.

Take a screenshot of the ad if you make the purchase. PSA and other vendors sometimes drop upper receiver lines, so I will archive the past ad. I find that email receipts of purchases are hit and miss with regards to how much information beyond a general description and product number is included.

    I agree, Captain!

Staple the ad saying "hbar" or "heavy barrel" to the receipt. Put the receipt in your safe. ;)

Beware if the ad says heavy profile, it could mean "heavier" than government but not "Heavy Barrel".

Yepp... i learned about that after purchasing a AR15....

    AR15 HBAR + 16" barrel + 15" rail is... heavy/cumbersome.

Yeah my AR is .2lbs heavier than my Hbar carbine. Its very well balanced with a free float rail and pretty light weight barrel.

Maybe consider colts 14.5” Pinned and Welded SOCOM “Heavy Barrel”

Has a gov profile but “heavy” barrel. Same barrel used on the M4A1 IIRC

Looking at the"fine print" in the PSA description, the barrel profile is "Heavy," it is the handguard that is "Lightweight" so it is not too scary for the Socialist Republic of Maryland.

To the OP, as others have already said, get a screen shot or hard copy of the description, and save it until you can move to America.

And am I correct if the barrel is not a HBAR then I'm only breaking the law if I attach it to a lower, correct?

So if it arrives and the barrel is not a HBAR, I can just swap out the barrel for an actual HBAR and then legally assemble it into a complete rifle?

IANAL but what you propose seems legal to me. But MSP may feel constructive possession applies but perhaps ask an attorney.

Double yes. They can argue that you are trying to break the law and you can argue that you are trying to obey the law by creating a legal configuration. I ended up cutting my non Hbar barrel for a pistol build.

Slight thread jack, but are there any other HBAR uppers that anyone recommends? I haven’t had a chance to drive down to engage armament and check out what they have yet, but I haven’t had a fully assembled AR since I moved into the state, and would like to get back into shooting soon.
