..I know, I really don't want to move here... However I am considering staying here for a year or two maximum (temporarily closer to family, etc) ... If I do not bring my handgun into the state of MD, would I still be required to register it simply for establishing residency?

I can't see having to register a gun in MD if it is not brought into the state. They have no jurisdiction outside the state border.

    Talk to a 2A lawyer.

I don't feel like looking up the exact wording of SB281, but does it not say something that upon establishing residency, you have to register all pistols and regulated firearms that you own?

Sure, and also list the impure thoughts you've had since entering the state, and the number of times you've taken O'Malley's name in vain . . .

if the guns never enter the state how would they even know he owns them?

They don't, but if they find out, he may be in violation of the law.

Is it worth the hassles? Is it worth possibly loosing your right to own firearms?

OWN or in your POSSESSION? I'm not looking up 281 either lol

Just playing games now, if someone moves out of state do they have to "unregister" them? :)

As others have said, Run, do not walk, to the nearest exit. We're like the hotel California, You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

To be honest, it sucks to be here and be a gun collector. My friend in northern VA keeps trying to sell me parts of his collection, and I have to keep saying, Nope, can't have that AR, Nope, can't buy your FAL, nope, no M1A for me.....

OK, so I looked it up.

And guess what. IT IS NOT CLEAR. :(

    (A) (1) A PERSON WHO MOVES INTO THE STATE WITH THE INTENT OF
BECOMING A RESIDENT SHALL REGISTER ALL REGULATED FIREARMS WITH THE
SECRETARY WITHIN 90 DAYS AFTER ESTABLISHING RESIDENCY.

So it will be up to Frosh to decide.

These posts about someone moving here are rare. Enjoy your family but leave your liberties and rights at the state line.

What handgun? It doesn't exist to the state of MD unless you bring it here.

I moved here for 3 years "maximum" 17 years ago. The state is like quicksand, but I do have an exit strategy.

Why would you register a handgun you already own legally? There is no registration requirement, just bring it.
