So just found my targets online from this weekend and trying to understand what "berdan string" is?

Anyone know? Is that group size of my 20 rounds for score?

    Cliff notes? Lol

That says 10 bullets in succession at 600 yards, the my target was shot at 1k yards?

A string you can't un-knot for reuse without a special tool.

A string used to be the total distance of each individual bullet impact from the center of the target. So if one shot were 2 inches off center at nine o'clock, and the next shot were 2 inches off at three o'clock, the total would be four inches. Meanwhile, if both shots were in a single hole 2 inches off center, it would still be four inches.

Not sure if that is what you're talking about, but that is how they measured a string back in Hiram Berdan's day.

Probably based on the shot string required to qualify for a position on Berdan's Sharpshooters when he raised the first regiment. I am sure it was based on strings they used to shoot for LR competition in those days. It was called the string of 50. 10 shots as fast as possible from a rest at 200y and the same offhand from 100y with open sights. No misses and a group average of 5" or less.

Its says 600 feet not yards, open sights off a rest and 100 yards offhand. And since they didn't get their Sharps rifles till later it was with whatever firearm you wanted to bring to the test.

This is why I'm asking, but I found my answer as posted above. This was shot at 1k, not 600 yards or feet.
