Petting Turtles

Hit one recently. Going north on tt 15 near va50. Car in front passed over. At last second, saw it head first in the middle on my lane. Thunked a couple of times under the car. It was big, I would have liked to keep the skull of that one.

Not much you can do when an animal gets in the road. I have responded to a couple of accidents where people tried to avoid an animal and wound up in the morgue. :sad20:

We were up at Hawk Mountain several years ago, and came across a Box Turtle that had to have a 14-15" long shell.

Staff was thrilled to hear it was safe after the winter.

I have lost box turtles that didn't burrow deep enough and froze during hibernation.
