I just had an M44 and a SKS from SOG that needed to be put in service. Both were packed with Cosmo. I recently purchased a medium size ultrasonic cleaner and was dying to try it out on small parts. My solution is nothing but raw simple green. And about 5 mins for each set of parts. The simple green removes most of the gue and what it does not vibrate off is balled up and easily wiped clean. takes them down to bare metal and no effect on finish or bluing.

After cleaning them all off using a spray bottle and q-tips/patches for tight area i place each set in a ziploc bag and cover with Rem Oil waiting for re-assy.

Very happy with results. Actually took an older SKS that I had and did a small part cleaning with this method.
