Looking to build a AR 9. My question is regarding the barrel length. I want to put on a 8" barrel with collapsible stock. It will be a actual 9mm upper and lower.

What issue or special hoops am I going to have to go through?

    Thanks in advance.

Consider the CMMG Guard bolt barrel combo. Delayed blowback, so no heavy buffer/spring. I have a Colt pattern SBR with a 5” barrel I have set up with a 9 oz buffer and .308 Spring. It, of course, has a heavy 9mm BCG. I also have an 8” CMMG Guard barrel bolt in a RRA Upper with an 80% Glock lower. The bolt is almost identical to a standard AR BCG. It is much lighter as it uses a standard buffer/buffer spring. Less reciprocating mass = less felt recoil. Also less tinkering.

It will be an SBR so you will need a stamp. OAL must be >=29" when complete.

If you use a collapsible brace instead, then you will have no OAL requirements and no tax stamp.

Either make a pistol or an sbr with a 10inch or longer barrel. I think those are the only legal configurations.
