I think laws should apply to LEO and us peons equally. Where were they when this law was being argued? Equal Protection. My apologies to the LEO on this forum but I have no sympathy for them specifically, I have it for all impacted by this silly law...

Yes if no one needs more than 10 rds then no one needs more than 10 rds. Should include duty firearms as well. Yes it is ridiculous, but ridiculous for all. I mean it's not like we are in a war zone or anything. Of course the body guards for politicians, celebrities, should have the same restrictions as well. Let us even push it further and become a civilized society and only arm some police like Britain.

It is only while off duty. It should be on duty as well. No exemptions period. One law for all.

I feel strongly that LEOs should have the best equipment that they can carry. They aren't the folks who dream up restrictive laws, it's the socialist/progressive politicians. I want LEOs to be able to defend themselves, even if the rest of us can't.

Now, that being said, I think the folks who make and enforce policy at the LD should face the same restrictions we mere mortals do.

NJ is bucking the tradition of law enforcement exemptions to the gun laws. Enforcement will be interesting.

I suspect that exemptions are normally employed as a clever tactic to garner law enforcement support behind new restrictions.

So why can't _I_ have the best equipment to defend myself? I can't carry a well-equipped policeman with me and the criminals will be the best armed that they can be.

Yes they should have the best, but so should every law abiding citizen. There should never be an exception for any law, rule or guideline based on your "status or station."

I expect when this hits the courts the off duty LE part of it will be thrown out. Many departments require their officers to carry off duty. To require the officer to change from 17 round mags to 10 round mags when he goes off duty will probably be seen as unreasonable. Hell, a tired cop driving home from work can wind up a felon if he forgot to change his mags out.

There is no law and/or right mandating police to be armed in the first place.

Law enforcement should be required to follow the same laws as the citizenry, no exceptions!
