So I went the NFA route on a Mossberg 590A1 w/ 14" barrel and registered it with the ATF as an AOW. It took a while but my tax stamp came back and my FFL said I needed to do paperwork as if this AOW was a handgun. I guess MSP requires handgun paperwork on AOW's. The 590A1 is on the handgun roster so that really wasn't an issue for me as I have an HQL and all. I went ahead and did the MSP paperwork and waited 8 days and was informed that my AOW was not being released due to a secondary review by MSP. What would cause this? I have a clean record and have been collecting / buying in Maryland for years. Like I said never had a problem before and just picked up a CANIK TP9 last week. (Yes I have a collector's license)

Secondary review can mean absolutely anything that they need a more experienced set of eyes or a few more days for, including the complexity of an NFA gun transfer by a clerk who isn't familiar with them. I've even seen stuff marked for secondary review that didn't seem to need it for any other reason than they were just busy. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
