Received correspondence from the Guv'nah's office in response to my "veto SB1000" pleadings.

Never received anything like this before. It's almost like he wants something, you know, in the future ...

No, that would have been really stupid.

All the bills where he announced veto (like the school calendar and min wage), the assembly got out of the way early so that they could override while they were in session.

If the Governor were to operate from the perspective that it's a losing cause at face value (simply because of super majorities), then yes, obviously it would be stupid. But, if the Governor were to operate from a position of strength and doing the right thing regardless of the other side's strength and position, it could be a completely different outcome. It's called taking the high road.

In the case of the HPRB repeal, the Governor could have challenged them on it in public, educated the public at the time as to why it should continue to exist, tell the public about the politics of why the democrats want everything to go through the OAH (like other progressive statist states), and fought more for his sentencing at the same time even as a counter proposal. He could have done so much more than he did this year. This is what leaders would do.

But, didn't. He is not a leader. He thought about himself instead.

Your way = immediate abolition of HPRB.

Hogans way = 7 month reprieve and delay.

I like his way. We get 7 full months to do what we can and maybe see some cards from the Supreme Court. Which shows why some people make it to the .gov mansion, and others just bang pots and pans.

Sorry, but I cannot take credit for pioneering the "be a leader and take the high road" approach. That is what real leaders do when they feel strongly about something. He is not a leader and never has been. Not everyone can be a leader. The only thing he feels strong about is his political future.

So, Larry did the only thing he was capable of doing: he sat in his team's end zone and punted the veto. I'm not a fan. Maryland deserves better. Sure, we benefited this time, but all I need do is point back to last year. Same man. Same self-serving belief system and lack of leadership.

I've seen opposite party executives win on issues in the face of one party legislative control. It takes leadership, charisma, and skill. That's all I'm trying to say. Larry is not that guy. Yes, we have 7 months. I just hope Roberts doesn't become the new Kennedy.

Why does it matter if you take a loss today or take it 7 months from now it is still a loss is it not? What's wrong with expecting better from our "leaders." Exactly how many reviews are going to be done by the board between now and when the veto is over ridden? And of those how many wins will be appealed to the OAH and have the MSP position upheld? So how many wins will be allowed to stand?

At some point principled people will have to stand against "leaders" like larry. Granted those times are before the choice is a guy like him or the devil.

If you think you can do it better run for office. We could really use someone with your leadership skills in the AGs office.

What are you calling for, specifically? Violence? Voting for Frosh for governor to teach all those Hogan voters a lesson? What - in specific, non-hand-wavy, simple language - are you really suggesting when you use platitudes like that?

Hogan isn’t the active enemy. He’s just a symptom of what the enemy (just barely, and for the last time in this state) allowed to happen. The people you need to “stand up against” are the huge majority of people in the state who actively, passionately, and with their wallets and votes, hate everything you stand for. How will you stand up against them, in a way that actually will result in the core populations of places like Montgomery and Howard counties utterly upending their world views and everything they say they believe in? Please be specific, since I have yet to hear even one sincere, plausible answer to that question.

One doesn't need to run for office to demand more from their elected office holders. I pay to setup and run their offices as well as for their compensation and fringe benefits! So do you!

I have thought many times about running for some office, but I'm probably not good enough at kissing @$$ and making awkward public gestures of affection like Joe Biden does.

I have to question the "huge majority" of any group in this state. When a 35% turnout of registered voters is enough to overwhelm the poll workers, that tells me that most people in the sorry state are too busy living their lives to care about much of anything else. The active voters in the Big Three Counties are a brainwashed minority of actual residents who vote how they're told when they're told. If we could break the tyranny of complacency we could accomplish wonders and throw the crooks in Annapolis right into jail where they belong. If anyone has any ideas, I'm sure we're open. Remember, raising Hell in the streets seemed to work.

    Just my two Yuan...
