    No. That is not for the extractor. These were not cut at all.


    I just tried to replicate that shot with a few of my Mausers. It's the bolt face. Along with dark shadows.

    Look closely and you can see the ejector slot between the two shiny pins. The pins aren't pins, but both sides of the slot. You can see the firing pin hole too. Also barely visible.

    What threw me was the extreme radius. That I can't reproduce. All of my extractor claws are very squared off in every direction.

    Mystery solved.

    OMG, I finally figured out what you guys were talking about.
    Here is a photo enhancement to verify your findings.

    Very often there is more in the image than you can see on your screen. Your eyes have more dynamic range than cameras do.
    You can even see the little ring that I think the primer residue causes.
